This CD contains live recordings of a concert on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Einstein Kultur in Munich, founded by the city of Munich, Department of Arts and Culture.
The concert was planned as part of a tour of the Quartet XPACT, but Stefan Keune and Hans Schneider were indisposed and were replaced, at the last minute, by Harri Sjöström and Philipp Wachsmann
– Erhard Hirt (May 2023)
The recording on this CD endeavours to communicate the more than usual impact and contribution of the audience who participated in the interactions of the musicians, and even the feel of the space between pieces. The final applause was therefore included – it even included a bold listener brandishing his iphone playing back a short extract he had only just recorded.
The musicians came together for this their first tour of the especially for you quartet, bringing new and fresh interactions. Each in earlier times played together variously. There are too many experiences to list all here. Significantly and coming to mind, Paul and Erhard are in the long standing, classic / iconic and always exceptional Xpact quartet. Philipp and Harri perform in many combinations since the 1980s. There was a great deal brought to this concert – a new moment ‘in the moment’ to which the audience contributed.
Paul Lytton on percussion, drew from his extensive and enriched array of instruments and sound objects that comprise his unique sound pallet developed over the years. Erhard used his own also extensive computer transformations of his guitar, and Philipp largely played the acoustic violin with a few occasional electronic transformations. Harri flew amidst amazing invention on saxophones.
