Emil Karlsen - drums

Fractured grooves blend into dark, cinematic ambient drones and morph into spontaneous improvisations, colored by epic electronica and ornamented with raw noises

— Eyal Hareuveni (Salt Peanuts)

For their third album, and first release on Bead, light.box expands from the duo of Alex Bonney (trumpet, electronics) and Pierre Alexandre Tremblay (bass guitar, electronics) to a trio adding the highly inventive Norwegian improv drummer Emil Karlsen. The music moves into ever more sonically expansive territory: dark ambient drone with fractured grooves meets gestural improv, gritty noise corrupts epic electronica.

"Fractured grooves blend into dark, cinematic ambient drones and morph into spontaneous improvisations, colored by epic electronica and ornamented with raw noises." - Eyal Hareuveni, Salt Peanuts

"The music is roomy, but its shadowy ambience proposes hidden secrets which reveal themselves as your rewards for close, attentive listening. An inimitable soundscape that encapsulates the audience." - Ken Cheetham, Jazzviews

"An important new entry in this second volume trajectory of Bead, as it broadens the label’s catalogue, while staying true to the nature of 1970’s improvisation." - Fotis Nikolakopolous, Freejazzblog
