Gush Wachs conjures the world as seen by an electron microscopist, a lilliputian land of minutes gestures and stray quarks. It's also a vivid soundscape, so bright and colourful at times it would send Hans Hoffman back to the easel. What most separates it from electro acoustic composition, of course, is the way it was made. Free improvised music moves it mysterious, unforeseen ways that pre-organised music can't; unreal shapes and acousmatic soundscape brought to life, fibrolated, sent out into the world like the Golem or Frankenstein. It's frightening music indeed, live-wired music - music from the netherworld between machines living and dead, caught in the tension between the hazardous physical properties of electricity and the conductivity of living bodies.
